Journalist shares if Everton set for firesale with Manchester United and Arsenal keen on Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana
Ben Jacobs has shared if Everton are likely to have a firesale given Arsenal and Manchester United showing an interest in their players.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Belgian midfielder while the English centre-back is on the radar of the Red Devils.
However, the CBS Sports journalist does not see a firesale happening in the January transfer window.
He said on the Football Terrace at 12:14pm, 17 January: “I don’t see a firesale in the next few weeks with clubs interested in Onana and Branthwaite. Arsenal’s interest in Onana is genuine but it’s nothing more than that at this stage.
“I’m not aware of any talks taking place between Arsenal and Everton for Onana. Even if Everton are in some ways motivated to bring in money.
“I still sense it’s out of Arsenal’s budget in this window. The asking price would be at least £50million and some sources say £60million.
“Everton will not be interested in doing some long-term deal that benefits Arsenal. I think Onana will leave in the summer.”
Keep them
While the prospect of significant funds from selling Onana to Arsenal and Branthwaite to Manchester United is enticing for Everton, the club must exercise caution and resist the urge for hasty sales.
Despite the financial boost, these players possess considerable potential and could significantly contribute to the Toffees’ future success.

Selling emerging talents may undermine long-term squad development and competitiveness and the inflated transfer market often prompts clubs to overspend on replacements, negating the financial gains.
Everton should prioritise a balanced approach, nurturing their young talents and selectively selling to strengthen specific positions.
The breach of Profitability and Sustainability rules undoubtedly makes things all the more tough for them to hold on to their talented players.
It remains to be seen whether or not Manchester United or Arsenal come in with offers for any of these two players.
