Everton: Deal practically done for Arnaut Danjuma exit as Goodison replacement found

Everton are closing in on signing a new winger which will allow Arnaut Danjuma to leave early and join Lyon, according to FootMercato.

Writing on their website (18 January), the French news outlet report that the Toffees told Lyon that they must find a replacement before they allow Danjuma to terminate his loan deal early.

And they believe a deal is now practically done as Lyon have been given the green light to proceed with a deal for the Netherlands international this month.

“As far as the clubs are concerned, Villarreal is not against a deal but the ball is in the Toffees’ court,” they wrote.

“The latter informed OL that they had to find Danjuma’s successor before opening the door to him and breaking his loan. And it’s practically a done deal since the English have obviously found what they’re looking for.”

Wow

Well that’s a huge surprise for Everton fans, because it seemed certain that Danjuma would be staying put for the rest of the season.

Sean Dyche made it clear that he was planning on having the winger in his squad for the second half of the season, and with an agreement in placce there wasn’t much more to say about it.

However with Dwight McNeil making a quick recovery from an ankle injury and playing in the FA Cup replay with Crystal Palace, it showed that Danjuma is firmly down the pecking order at Goodison Park right now.

The fact Danjuma didn’t even come on in the game was telling too, and it could be because the club have found a deal for him and didn’t want to take the risk of having to use him if they didn’t need to.

It will be interesting to see what name comes out as the replacement, but Everton are clearly close to doing something in the attacking department that will allow Danjuma to head elsewhere.
