Everton: Kevin Campbell shares ‘huge concern’ for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as unwanted development emerges

It’s a “huge concern” for Everton that Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored in his last 14 games, according to Kevin Campbell.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Thursday (18 January, 10:07am), the pundit said the England international is “doing all the right things” so he expects him to end his drought before long, having not found the back of the net since the 1-0 victory over West Ham on 29 October.

He added that fellow forward Beto can also look to take some of the pressure away from the 26-year-old as the Toffees look to fight off relegation from the Premier League again this season.

“Huge, it’s a huge concern, I’m sure Dominic Calvert-Lewin he can’t wait to score, he’s doing all the right things,” said Campbell. “Our strikers union we say keep getting in there, keep doing the right things and it’ll come.

“Sometimes you just need a teammate to pick you out once for a side-footer tap-in and that’s not happening for him either.

“Listen, they’ve got Beto who can take a little bit of the pressure off him from time to time. So Everton have done well so far considering they’ve been deducted 10 points.”

Needs to turn up

It’s surely only a matter of time before Calvert-Lewin does eventually break his goal drought as it’s already gone on too long for a player of his quality.

He had a massive chance to open the scoring in the first half in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on 14 January, but he showed little composure as he failed to guide the ball past Emiliano Martinez.

The forward has scored just four goals in 22 appearances so far this season, with summer signing Beto adding just three strikes himself.

Given that neither of their strikers are firing in this campaign, the Toffees have done extremely well to keep their heads above water, particularly given that they were deducted 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules.

But as they look to steer themselves away from the danger zone again, the Blues will need the pair to start finding the net on a more regular basis.
