Everton set Amadou Onana asking price as Newcastle United refuse to give up on January transfer

Everton would potentially be open to selling Amadou Onana to Newcastle United if the midfielder’s asking price is met, according to The Telegraph.

In an update shared for the publication’s online edition by Luke Edwards on Sunday [21 January], it was reported that Everton value the Newcastle target at £50million.

Edwards adds that, while “Newcastle have not given up” on a deal, they would first need to sell someone for big money in order to fund the move this month.

Bournemouth’s Sam Billing, Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach are named as possible alternatives to Onana.

No chance

Everton are in no immediate need to sell any players, let alone one of Sean Dyche’s favourites who has started 22 matches this season.

Should a £50m offer be tabled, it would of course give the Toffees something to think about.

That is highly unlikely to be the case, though, as Newcastle are severely restricted due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (welcome to our world!).

Unless they can offload a player for near enough that same price, this is a transfer that has next to no chance of happening this month.

Given the interest in Onana from elsewhere in the Premier League, the Belgium international could easily be on his way further down the line.

With that in mind, it is likely that the club are already lining up a few possible replacements ahead of the summer.

Even then, Everton need to stand their ground and ensure Onana is not sold unless his asking price is met in full – not a single penny less.

In other Everton news, a date has reportedly been set for the Toffees’ hearing against their 10-point Premier League deduction.
