Path may be clear for Everton to complete January transfer for Tom Fellows as West Brom update emerges

The January transfer window is already nearing its final week and so far it has been an incredibly quiet period for Everton, with very little business in or out of Goodison Park.

Everton’s current financial situation has been well documented and as the Toffees attempt to remain within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, they were always unlikely to be able to make too many changes to Sean Dyche’s squad.

However, one name that has been linked to the blue half of Merseyside this month is West Brom forward Tom Fellows, with suggestions emerging that the Toffees may be interested in the 20-year-old.

Reports emerged from Fabrizio Romano (10 January) that Everton are monitoring the Baggies’ wideman ahead of a potential summer move, as Fellows’ contract at The Hawthorns is set to expire come the end of the season.

Albion are reportedly in behind-the-scenes talks with their academy product to extend his current deal with the Midlands club, as manager Carlos Corberan is keen to keep hold of the winger after his impressive start to life in the first team [Express and Star, 10 January].

However, an opportunity may have arisen for Everton to complete their business ahead of schedule as currently, West Brom are expected to use any incoming transfer fees to cover running costs at The Hawthorns as they await the completion of a takeover.

Former BBC broadcaster Adrian Goldberg was quoted on The Liquidator Podact [25:01] saying: “Unless players go out, which sadly I think one or two may do, we won’t have any money to spend. Even if a couple of players do go out, like Fellows for example, I’m not convinced that money will be used to bring in someone else.

“Albion are probably in a situation where any money that comes in will pay the bills and keep the lights on.”

West Brom need money into The Hawthorns to ensure that they don’t need to take out another loan and that may well just tempt them into parting company with Fellows, should Everton float a reasonable bid during the January window.

While the Toffees aren’t exactly blessed with wealth and riches, 777 Partners are known to be admirers of the 20-year-old winger and some of the money lent to Everton could be used to get his arrival over the line six months sooner than planned.

It may well be that Everton decide to leave this potential deal until the summer, but by then Fellows may well have signed a new deal and the Toffees could well have missed their chance to secure the winger’s services.

A window of opportunity has appeared to get this transfer over the line and Dyche and those above him at Goodison shouldn’t allow it to slip by.
