777-owned Genoa ready move to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey, talks underway – Fabrizio Romano
Genoa are considering a move to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey in a last gasp January transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer guru, took to his personal Twitter account to share that the Serie A outfit are considering a move for the Goodison Park outcast as it could be an option given their 777 Parterns connection, with an expected takeover on Merseyside still needing Premier League and FA approval.
Discussions are already taking place between the two clubs with several more clubs interested in Godfrey’s services.
Romano posted on Wednesday afternoon (24 January): “Genoa are considering move for Ben Godfrey from Everton — could be an option via 777 connection.
“Discussions taking place but there are more clubs interested in Godfrey.”
Exit could be near
It has been clear for some time that Godfrey is now little more than a spare part at Everton. He has found regular football hard to come by under Sean Dyche and a move away this month would be ideal for all parties involved.
The 25-year-old has made only two appearances for Sean Dyche’s side this season, coming off the bench for one minute of Premier League action in September and playing the full 90 in their 2-0 win over Burnley (16 December).
The York-born powerhouse appeared to be a worthy capture at the time of his arrival back in 2020 signed by Carlo Ancelotti, having previously starred for his previous employers Norwich City, both in the second tier and in the Premier League.
Godfrey commanded a rather sizeable fee at £20m, after showing some tremendous potential and growth in his game during his early years at Carrow Road, especially in the Premier League.
Since then, the former Canaries defender has gone on to make 80 appearances on the blue half of Merseyside since his capture in 2020, severely hampered by injury troubles and lack of consistency in the Toffees first team.
That has unfortunately continued under Dyche’s twelve-month tenure at the club, with the 25-year-old defender now a forgotten man, over two years on from when he was touted as one of the best young defenders of his position in the country and handed his England debut in June 2021.

It’s best for all parties if he quits now and that could be very much before the transfer deadline should Everton sanction it.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are now ready for a bid for a Goodison Park star as a vulnerability and Dyche stance emerges.
