Tottenham twist emerges after Dele Alli development at Everton
Everton boss Sean Dyche has confirmed Dele Alli required surgery to treat an ongoing groin injury, and Tottenham have been informed of the development, as shared by Liverpool World.
The former Spurs man joined Everton in January 2022, with the condition that once he makes 20 appearances for the club, they would be due to pay Tottenham £10million.
Alli has made 13 appearances so far, before a loan move to Besiktas and a long spell on the sidelines after suffering multiple injury blows, with no progress made towards the bonus payment.
Speaking prior to Everton’s clash with Luton, Dyche shared: “Unfortunately, he has required surgery. There was a bit of a debate whether to or not, it took some time. Now he’s recovering from that. There’s no timescale on that and we’re just waiting for it to develop. The early signs are good.”
Will this extra payment ever happen?
Two years on from Alli’s arrival at Goodison Park, who could have guessed it would take him this long to make 20 appearances for the club? Tottenham certainly wouldn’t have done, and will be frustrated with the timescale on his eventual return.
The fact that Spurs are being kept up-to-date with his recovery progress seems also to hint that questions have been asked on their side about when, or if, the £10million will ever land at their doorstep.
Just as there had been some hope that Alli would finally make his return to Goodison Park after everything that he has gone through in his personal life, as explained on The Overlap with Gary Neville [13 July], this will be yet another kick in the teeth for the midfielder.

Everton fans will also be frustrated by the news, having hoped to see him return after the positive progress made to get back into training with the team just for the setback to knock him back to what feels like square one again.
In other Everton news, the club want to do a late January deal for one £25million star.
