Everton learn fate in Frank Onyeka January pursuit as Brentford stance emerges
Everton could certainly do with at least one or two new players in the door this month to help out manager Sean Dyche.
The Toffees are once again in real danger of the Premier League drop, particularly with another potential points deduction heading their way.
More high-quality players are undoubtedly needed at Goodison Park to help the club push away from the bottom three, but signing them is, of course, much easier said than done.
One player that Everton are keen on this month is Brentford ace Frank Onyeka, with a loan move eyed given the financial issues on Merseyside [The Guardian, 11 January].
But that potential transfer has now hit a major stumbling block, with The Standard reporting on Sunday (28 January) that Brentford will not let the midfielder leave on loan for a Premier League rival.
That is an unsurprising decision from the powers that be at the West London club, with Everton just five points behind the Bees in the league table.
Dyche currently has the likes of James Garner and Amadou Onana to call upon in midfield, with Idrissa Gueye at the Africa Cup of Nations and Abdoulaye Doucoure out injured, although Andre Gomes has recently made a return after being left out in the cold.
But this stance from Brentford means that Onyeka will not be making a move to Goodison Park this month, meaning Dyche must look elsewhere if he wants a new midfielder in the door.

Everton perhaps would have been up against it if a deal for Onyeka was on the cards, with The Standard noting that Fulham, Girona and Reims are all interested in a move for the 26-year-old Nigeria international.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are “huge fans” of one Leicester City star as a late January development emerges.
