Everton now want to sign Benfica ace Florentino Luis in last-gasp January loan deal at Goodison Park

Everton hold a genuine interest in signing Benfica ace Florentino Luis on loan in the January transfer window, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS journalist tweeted on Monday (29 January) that the 24-year-old is “highly valued” by the Primeira Liga champions despite his opportunities in the side being reduced this season.

The Toffees’ pursuit of the Portuguese midfielder comes as Sean Dyche looks to add to his squad at Goodison Park as the deadline edges closer.

Makes sense

It makes complete sense for Everton to be scouring the loan market due to the difficult financial situation they currently find themselves in.

While the performances on the field have been much better this season than the past couple of years, the 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules has landed them in relegation trouble again.

Dyche is going to need to really on the depth of his squad over the next few months as he looks to ensure they remain in the top flight beyond this campaign.

After Luis has seen his minutes in the Benfica side reduced this season, he would probably be open to a short-term switch to go out and play some more regular games.

Although Amadou Onana and James Garner have performed well in midfield during this campaign, another body would certainly be welcome to share the load over the next few months.
