Youssef Chermiti may be set for late Everton exit after seven matches amid new January transfer update

It has been an incredibly quiet January transfer window at Goodison Park with Everton massively limited by financial fair play restrictions when looking to add to their squad.

The Toffees are yet to make an addition to Sean Dyche’s side as they look to dodge relegation from the Premier League this season, however, there have been suggestions that Everton could well complete a couple of late deals in the final days of the window.

One player who has been linked with a deadline-busting switch to Goodison Park is Ajax forward Chuba Akpom, as the Toffees look to bolster their forward line for the remainder of the season.

Reports emerged from TeamTalk on Monday (29 January) that the Blues were interested in signing the former Middlesbrough frontman on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with Luton Town also holding an interest.

Akpom has shown that he can be a consistent source of goals in England and was excellent for Boro in the Championship last season, scoring 29 times in 42 appearances. This term he has managed nine goals in 20 appearances for Ajax.

However, should he make the switch to Everton this month, it could spell the end for a couple of other forwards already in Dyche’s side. The Englishman only likes to play with one number nine and if Akpom arrives, it could see the pecking order change at Goodison.

One striker that would almost certainly be shown the exit door in the final knocking of the January window would be summer signing, Youssef Chermiti who has struggled to make an impact on the Premier League this term.

The 19-year-old has only made seven league appearances for the Toffees so far this season, none of which have been starts. After 21 games, the teenager has only managed to play 46 minutes of Premier League football and already might be prime for a loan exit.

Reports have suggested that Chermiti could be set to depart Everton on loan for the remainder of the season [Sunday People, 31 December] and should Akpom make the switch to Goodison in the final days of the January window, a temporary switch may be completed.

It is clear that the Portuguese forward is a long-term project for the Toffees, but it could be best for all parties if he heads out on loan for the remainder of the campaign in search of some consistent first-team football.
