Everton plan emerges after PSV Eindhoven explore Arnaut Danjuma move in January transfer window
PSV Eindhoven have been exploring a possible deal to sign Everton loanee Arnaut Danjuma in the January transfer window, according to Rik Elfrink.
The Eindhovens Dagblad journalist reported via Twitter on 29 January that the Dutch winger is a “long shot” for the Eredivisie side because neither the Toffees or parent club Villarreal are planning to change anything before the deadline.
PSV reportedly pursued the 26-year-old in the summer but couldn’t afford a deal and again appear set to see their interest come to nothing.
Danjuma has been heavily linked to a Lyon move this month, but despite Everton attempting to agree other loan signings that would necessarily need to take his slot in the squad, and a space being freed up among the Ligue 1 side’s own loanees, he remains at Goodison Park with the deadline fast approaching.
Nothing doing?
Barring something dramatic it looks like Danjuma will remain an Everton player for the rest of the season, likely meaning the club goes through the window without any changes.
Sean Dyche had indicated the former Tottenham winger would be staying on Merseyside earlier this month [Sky Sports], and without a replacement agreed and ready to come in that is the best course of action.
After a first half of the campaign where his impact has been less than what would have been hoped for (13 Premier League appearances, one goal) it is quite possible that the Toffees would be happy to let him to go to Lyon, PSV or anywhere else if they could bring someone else in that could be key.
But this January window has been notable primarily for its lack of activity across the Premier League and elsewhere, as fears of falling foul of profit and sustainability rules appear to have cause the system to grind to a halt.
Everton of course have already been caught out twice on those very grounds, losing 10 points and facing the prospect of a second sanction, pending appeal, despite their own recent transfer windows being an almighty struggle anyway.
In that context there is nothing to spend and possible loan options aren’t materialising, but if Danjuma stays it would be in the club’s best interest if Dyche can find a way to get more out of him between now and May.
In other Everton news, Chelsea have reportedly made a move to sign a Premier League “golden boy” at Goodison Park.
