Everton consider last-gasp Chuba Akpom bid as sources share transfer news
Everton are considering a late January move to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom amid interest from Luton Town and Crystal Palace, according to Ryan Taylor.
The Daily Mirror journalist reported via X [31 January] that sources have shared that a loan proposal is more likely at this stage than a permanent move.
It is understood that Lille have already had one bid rejected by Ajax earlier this month, with Bundesliga teams also taking an interest in the former Middlesbrough man.
Upgrading Everton’s arsenal
If Akpom’s previous campaign in England is anything to go by, Everton would have a special player on their hands if they were able to bat away interest from Palace and Luton.
The forward was electric last season at the Riverside Stadium, netting 28 goals in 38 league matches as Boro finished in the top-four spots of the Championship, missing out on the play-off final after a 1-0 loss to Coventry City.
With only a handful of games for Arsenal during his time in the Premier League, a loan move to Goodison Park could present Akpom with a chance to show what the Gunners let go all those years ago.
Considering Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s serious lack of goals this season, and Beto yet to make an impact at Everton, a brand-new striker would be an intelligent transfer before the window closes on 1 February.

Abdoulaye Doucoure still leads the goalscoring list at Everton with six goals in all competitions, suggesting that Sean Dyche is crying out for an alternative striker option in the second half of the season, especially if the Toffees want to avoid relegation.
Akpom’s career in The Netherlands has failed to take off as of yet, mainly due to the club’s very poor start to the season. However, his nine goals in 20 appearances should be enough for any relegation-threatened side to take action.
