Everton join Inter Milan and Napoli in tabling £17m+ offer for Fenerbahce ace Jayden Oosterwolde
Everton tabled an offer in excess of £17million for Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde, according to Habertürk.
The Turkish newspaper posted on its online edition on Wednesday morning (31 January) that Inter Milan and Napoli also lodged bids.
The report adds that the offers were in the region of €20m, but Fenerbahce have made it clear they have no interest in selling right now.
Oosterwolde has played 30 matches for the Super Lig giants this season – 13 of those at left-back and the rest at centre-back.
Versatile option
Given the fact the Dutchman is comfortable playing at left-back and centre-back, this is a transfer link that makes sense.
However, spending £17m on a relatively unknown defender this month seems strange from the Toffees’ perspective.
This may well be the club being proactive in the market, though, knowing that there will surely be bids for Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer.
Oosterwolde has made a big impact at Fenerbahce since arriving from Parma in the summer, while he has also previously played for FC Twente.
With European experience to his name, Fener feel it is not worth cashing in on the 22-year-old at this moment in time.
When factoring in the interest from Serie A pair Inter and Napoli, it may well be that Everton face even fiercer competition further down the line.
A left-field transfer link this may be, but that is something we have become accustomed to with regards to the Toffees’ transfer business in recent times.
In other Everton news, Simon Jordan has made a “gone” claim with regards to Sean Dyche and the Toffees.
