Everton transfer news as Said Benrahma blow emerges at Goodison Park

Everton have been handed a “Huge blow” hours before the transfer deadline after West Ham agreed a deal with Lyon for Said Benrahma, according to HITC.

The website reported [31 January] that the London club has agreed a £4million loan move for the Algerian, with an option to buy at the end of the season for £11million.

It is understood that the Toffees were interested in Benrahma but his move to Lyon is on the verge of being completed ahead of the February 1 deadline.

Missed opportunity

All Evertonians were expecting a quiet transfer window this month but that does not take away from the expectation and pain when a possible target moves to a different club instead.

Although Benrahma has slipped down the pecking order under David Moyes, the winger could have offered a different outlet for Sean Dyche.

Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil are Dyche’s only real options on the wing currently, with Villarreal loanee Arnaut Danjuma failing to stamp his mark at Goodison Park.

Everton

Goals have been hard to come by for Everton, especially in recent weeks. The team have managed to score just two goals in their last six matches in all competitions. Relegation is a very real threat for the Toffees now, with Luton Town’s 4-0 victory over Brighton pushing Everton into the bottom three spots.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has only netted three times this season too, with midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure leading the scoring list so far with six goals. It is disappointing to see Everton miss out on a possible goal threat.

In other Everton news, Simon Jordan has made a “gone” claim with regards to Sean Dyche and the Toffees.
