Everton star Amadou Onana sends two-word message amid Neal Maupay and James Maddison clash

Amadou Onana has got involved in the clash between Everton loanee Neal Maupay and Tottenham star James Maddison.

The Brentford striker and Tottenham midfielder have been involved in a social media war of words after their league meeting on Wednesday (31 January).

Tottenham won the match 3-2, with Maupay using Maddison’s darts celebration following his goal which put the hosts 1-0 ahead.

“Went a bit early with that one,” Maupay posted on Instagram. “Gutted we couldn’t get the win. More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison. We go again Monday bees.”

Among those commenting on the post from the Brentford loanee was Everton midfielder Onana, who wrote: “Love that.”

Maddison also took to Instagram after the match, posting an image of Maupay doing the celebration, with the words: “A short story… COYS.”

Feisty

It was certainly a feisty encounter in North London, with several on-field issues at play during the 90 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And unsurprisingly, Maupay was at the centre of much of it, with the striker annoying Maddison with the well-known celebration.

But the Brentford man, who was also shown a yellow card during the match, was ultimately left disappointed, with Tottenham coming from behind to win the five-goal thriller.

Destiny Udogie started the comeback with an early second-half goal after the hosts went into the break 1-0 down, with his effort quickly followed by one from Brennan Johnson.

Richarlison then added a third shortly after, with Ivan Toney giving the visitors a chance with their second of the game, but it proved to be the last goal of the evening.

Amid all the fighting, Everton manager Sean Dyche will be pleased that Maupay is now finally finding his feet while on loan at the Bees.
