Journalist drops Everton transfer ‘risk’ verdict amid rumours of last-gasp Deadline Day move for Brentford man Frank Onyeka

We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports News journalist Dan Bardell for his exclusive reaction to Everton transfer news on Deadline Day…

Dan Bardell doesn’t believe Everton are likely to take the “risk” of bringing in Brentford ace Frank Onyeka before the transfer deadline at 11pm on Thursday (1 February).

The Standard reported on its live transfer tracker on Wednesday (31 January) that the Toffees and Fulham have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old during this window.

But it added that the West Londoners are reluctant to strengthen a Premier League rival in the loan market after they have also turned down loan bids from La Liga club Girona and French outfit Reims for the midfielder.

Bardell believes Onyeka would be unlikely to get into the Blues’ team if they were to get a deal over the line before the transfer window slams shut.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, the Sky Sports journalist said: “That would strike me as a bit of a squad-filler option, Onyeka. I don’t think he would come in and play for Everton.

“But we know they’ve already had 10 points deducted, we know there’s been another charge since then.

“I’m not sure they actually need to take the risk of doing anything else unless it was a really cheap loan, where they are not paying much of the wages.

“But even then, I’d be looking at Brentford and be thinking if he’s going to go there and not be first choice, they may as well keep him.”
