Sky Sports share transfer update on Everton defender Mason Holgate amid Sheffield United links
Everton defender Mason Holgate is set to undergo his medical at Sheffield United on transfer Deadline Day, according to Sky Sports.
The news outlet reported on 1 February at 12:22pm that the 27-year-old will be joining the Blades before the window shuts.
The English defender was on loan for the first half of the season at Southampton and will now be playing top flight football.
Makes sense
Holgate was unlikely to be a regular starter at Everton and Sean Dyche knows it as well as anyone else.
He’s got a fixed centre-back pairing of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski – neither of whom are leaving in the transfer window.
The 27-year-old could have been a decent utility option on the bench but it’s evident that he did not want to play a bench role.
The Toffees are unlikely to miss him as if a player has not impressed in the Championship, there’s little evidence he’ll thrive in the Premier League.
Hopefully, there are still some incomings at Goodison Park before the window shuts as this side is in dire need of reinforcements.

They’re back in a relegation battle and Luton’s form is certainly not helping so they do need a body in on transfer Deadline Day.
In other Everton news, the Toffees’ transfer deal to sign an in-form player in January will now include a £7m option to buy.
