Dion Dublin slams ‘awful’ Everton after what happened at Goodison Park v Tottenham
Dion Dublin has slammed the Everton defending as they fell a goal down to Tottenham after just four minutes at Goodison Park, courtesy of a Richarlison goal.
The former Everton favourite put Tottenham 1-0 up early in the game after drifting away from his man, with the home side battling back to draw 2-2 in the end.
Dublin was especially critical of the defending which allowed the Brazilian to pull away and find so much space inside the penalty area, although he was full of praise for the “instinctive” finish.
Speaking live on BBC Radio 5 [3 February, 12:37], Dublin shared: “It was a natural finish. For Richarlison it was [an easy finish]. It is just finding a finish instinctively. But the defending was awful.”
Richarlison had to score
It was inevitable that the Brazilian would find the back of the net. Although it isn’t his first return to Goodison Park since leaving for Tottenham in a £50million deal, his recent run of goalscoring form meant this result was always on the cards.
The defending will be just as frustrating to Sean Dyche as it was to Dublin, as he will be questioning how he was able to find so much space and time in the box which ultimately made the finish easy, putting the home side immediately on the back foot.
After his goal against Everton in the reverse fixture, Richarlison opted to cut his celebrations short after the initial elation of finding the net, and after this goal, he simply apologised to the home support.

There were even tenuous links surrounding a possible return to Merseyside last summer when the forward was expected to leave Spurs, but that was quickly dismissed due to the financial situation at Goodison Park.
