Ange Postecoglou raves about what Jordan Pickford did in Everton draw v Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has applauded Jordan Pickford for his influence as Tottenham Hotspur were pegged back twice in a 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.

Tottenham’s efforts to score a third and finish the game off were thwarted before Jarrad Branthwaite netted in the fourth minute of added time to draw Everton level for the second time in the match.

The England shot-stopper can be thanked for that, having made four saves throughout the match, as per FotMob. The Spurs manager singled out the goalkeeper as one of the main reasons Everton were able to claim a point.

“It’s almost inevitable that regardless of what you do, you’re going to be under pressure here. That’s kind of why we needed a little bit of a buffer,” he told Liverpool Echo on Sunday (4 February).

“We had opportunities and to be fair Pickford pulled off some good saves as well which kind of kept them in the game but it’s something we’ve got to take on the chin and move on.”

Everton complete the comeback

One point against Spurs at Goodison Park could be a vital moment in the Toffees’ season, with the club remaining in the relegation zone after a tough fixture.

While the threat of Championship football next season is very much still there, Sean Dyche’s side can take a lot of confidence from the performance against the fifth-best team in the Premier League.

Pickford played a major role in claiming a point against Spurs, remaining as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the league. He has the most clean sheets of any goalkeeper in the top division this season.

Everton had multiple chances to score more themselves, especially from corners with Vicario looking stranded. Harrison’s main job from set-pieces was to block the goalkeeper from coming to claim the crosses and it worked for the first equaliser.

With Everton one point behind Luton Town and Nottingham Forest, and three points separating them from Brentford, it is imperative that this display is just the start of a new-found form, especially with current champions Manchester City up next.
