Everton face further Merseyside derby disruption as Liverpool fixture moved

Everton and Liverpool fans face further uncertainty regarding next month’s Merseyside derby as it has been moved for Sky Sports coverage.

The British broadcaster confirmed on Monday (5 February) that the game will kick off at 2pm GMT on 17 March as things stand.

However, that is subject to Liverpool’s participation in the FA Cup, as the quarter-finals are scheduled for that weekend.

While this is no fault of the Premier League’s – there’s a change – or indeed Sky Sports’, it is still a massive inconvenience.

Everton looking for Merseyside derby revenge

Supporters who live further afield, perhaps even abroad, will have to alter their travel arrangements to suit this kick-off slot.

Then, there is a three-week wait until Liverpool’s FA Cup fifth-round tie with either Watford or Southampton at Anfield.

Should that game require a replay, there will be a further delay before we know whether the Merseyside derby will take place on 17 March.

It is far from ideal for fans, whether it be those travelling from outside Merseyside or those close by who need to make certain arrangements.

Everton supporters will be desperate for a takeover to go through at Goodison Park

A month out from the match, it is looking as though this could be one of the biggest showdowns between Everton and Liverpool in a long time.

The Toffees are deep in a relegation scrap, unless the 10-point deduction is overturned, while Liverpool are battling it out with Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

All we can ask for is that the new date, if one is required, is locked in as soon as possible once the result of Liverpool’s fifth-round tie is known so that supporters are not messed around any further.

In other Everton news, a journalist says a “fire sale” at Goodison cannot be ruled out if a certain development happens.
