Everton must sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, he’s not good enough anymore

Everton have no idea where they’re going to be playing their football in the 2024/25 season right now, but the summer transfer window is going to be huge regardless.

The financial situation of the club is unlikely to improve dramatically any time soon, even if a protracted takeover by 777 Partners takes place considering the situation at their other clubs.

And that means some major decisions will need to be made on Merseyside, starting with the playing staff and outgoing transfers from the current squad.

Amadou Onana has been linked with a move to Newcastle United and Arsenal in recent times while Jarrad Branthwaite is said to be a target for Manchester United among other clubs too.

But if Everton are able to stay in the Premier League for the new season, then they need to find a way to keep their better players while still being able to sell some people and bring money in to further strengthen the squad.

The summer window and January windows saw the team able to keep hold of key players which was important, but the chances of that happening again are slim to none. But there is an obvious candidate that the Toffees should look into selling to raise funds and also improve the squad.

Calvert-Lewin must leave Everton

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is currently on a 16-game run without a goal, although some will be keen to see him given the first equaliser during the 2-2 draw with Spurs that was ultimately awarded to Jack Harrison.

But aside from the lack of goals, his overall play has been dismal too and there is surely a call for summer signing Beto to get a run in the team to show if he is capable of filling in. Considering the club spent around £25m to bring him in, you’d hope that he can do that.

Calvert-Lewin will be entering the final year of his contract with the club and there won’t be a better to time to cash in. He has finally proven his fitness by being able to play regularly, and there is still a player in there somewhere.

However, with the position Everton are in they can’t afford to have passengers in the first-team and right now that is what he is. A new contract would send the wrong message too, because he isn’t performing and is going to want a bomb in wages.

A summer sale would suit everyone. The Toffees can cash in, Dyche can bring in a replacement that suits him better, and the player can go elsewhere to start fresh. First though, the team needs to get him firing again to keep us out of the Championship.
