Everton: The Esk shares ‘couple of months’ update on 10-point deduction appeal

Everton may have to wait “a couple of months” to discover the result of their appeal against their 10-point penalty for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, according to The Esk.

The Toffees were charged with their original breach of the league’s financial fair play rules and ultimately deducted 10 points by an independent commission, however, they appealed against that punishment.

Everton’s appeal has been heard and reports have suggested the outcome will be known by February [Sky Sports, 30 January], however, Everton financial expert The Esk believes the Toffees may have to wait a while yet to be told the result

Speaking on the Talking the Blues Podcast (5 February, 55:00) he said: “The appeal has been heard and it’s now finished. It’s now up to the commission, they’re now making their deliberations and will produce an article very similar to the document that was produced last time.

“It will identify A) what their decision is and B) what their reason is for their decision and that could take a couple of months.”

Premier League throwing Everton into relegation trouble

It had finally seemed as though a decision on the punishment for the first charge was imminent, but this latest update would suggest that Everton supporters face an increasingly frustrating wait for answers.

While uncertainty continues to rumble around 777 Partners’ takeover, with suggestions that Farhad Moshiri may well be doubting their chances of getting approval from the Premier League, it feels impossible for Dyche’s side to focus on the playing side of the game.

The bigger issue with this appeal taking so long is the impact it has on the Toffees’ second charge, which cannot be heard until the appeal of this first breach is cleared up. There is a huge cloud of uncertainty lingering over Merseyside currently.

Hopefully, Everton will learn the outcome of the appeal in February, rather than in a few months, otherwise, it could be a huge blow to Dyche’s side’s survival hopes.
