Garth Crooks shares ‘devastating’ Everton verdict, gushes over Richarlison display

Garth Crooks has claimed the 2-2 draw between Everton and Tottenham, with two goals from Richarlison, could have been devastating for the future of the Goodison Park club.

The BBC Sport pundit was full of praise for the Brazilian for his respectful celebrations, in which he appeared to apologise to the home crowd for the goals, which was greatly appreciated by the Goodison crowd.

However, such praise was not shared by everybody, with Tim Sherwood slamming the decision not to celebrate live on Premier League productions as he looked “devastated.”

Writing in his Team of the Week column [via BBCMOTD on X], Crooks gushed: “Tottenham and Everton fans will know that Richarlison is not one of my favourite players, but his conduct having scored two goals at Everton was as respectful as I have seen from any footballer towards a former club.

“Not only did he recognise the significance of the goals, but the devastating effect it may have on Everton’s future.”

Richarlison earning praise but Everton will be concerned

A 2-2 draw against Tottenham is far from a terrible result for Everton – but at this stage, with the form of Luton above them, only three points will do for Sean Dyche’s side.

You cannot expect to win every game, especially not against a high-flying Spurs side, so a point is certainly better than nothing, but the club need to start getting three points on the board as quickly as they can.

Luton’s emphatic 4-0 victory against Brighton, followed by a 4-4 draw with Newcastle, saw them pick up four points from two games they may not otherwise have been expected to take any from.

Everton, meanwhile, picked up two from games against Fulham and Tottenham, where they would maybe have hoped for three, but also zero was a definite possibility. Those results saw Luton leapfrog the Toffees out of the relegation zone.

It will now be on Dyche’s shoulders to start picking up the points and wins required to drag Everton back out, with Nottingham Forest, Brentford and even Crystal Palace in 14th also likely to be dragged into the scrap.
