Goodison Park scenes wow journalist as he is sent Everton audio v Tottenham
Ian Herbert could not believe the scenes around Goodison Park as Jarrod Branthwaite scored the equaliser for Everton in their 2-2 draw against Tottenham.
The Daily Mail journalist shared in his column piece (7 February, page 65) that a friend of his sent him audio of the Toffees second equaliser scored by Branthwaite and could not believe the “euphoria” expressed by the club’s in-house commentator Darren Griffiths which was “sublime”.
Branthwaite scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn Sean Dyche’s men a 2-2 draw with the North Londoners on Saturday (3 February) but still leaves them without a win six Premier League games dating back to before Christmas.
However, it was a precious point judging by the reaction of every Everton fan around Goodison as Herbert admits he smiles when he plays the audio back.
He wrote: “A friend sent me the audio of Everton’s second equaliser against Tottenham at Goodison. Hard to convey, in a space like this, the euphoria expressed by Everton’s in-house commentator Darren Griffiths.
“Safe to say it was sublime. Hard not to smile when playing it back, either, which I’ve done several times.
“Another friend, on the Gwladys Street with his father that Saturday afternoon, told me how that goal felt from his own, very different perspective.”
Huge point for Sean Dyche given the circumstances
The Toffees may well be without a win in six games but the fight they showed to claw themselves back against an impressive Spurs team was very encouraging.
It is the type of determination that has been the hallmark of Dyche’s tenure at Goodison Park and if this Everton team can carry on that dogged, never-say-die attitude between now and the end of the season, there’s no reason why they can’t escape the drop in dramatic fashion again.
The Goodison Park atmosphere on Saturday was raucous and the fans certainly played their part in what was a huge point for the club given all that’s going on with the appeal against further PSR punishment handed out by the Premier League.
The result showed that Everton aren’t going down without a fight but wins have got to be picked up again should the Toffees get themselves out of this rut.

Relegation rivals Luton Town are looking particularly impressive but Dyche will be confident in his side’s quality going forward, it’s whether his team are confident in themselves about toppling Luton in the coming weeks.
Some huge games ahead, starting against Manchester City on Saturday (10 February). Can they channel that doggedness to avoid defeat again?
