Everton loanee Neal Maupay slammed after Brentford v Manchester City controversy

Chris Sutton has slammed Everton loanee Neal Maupay for the controversy in the Brentford v Manchester City clash on Monday, 5 February.

While Maupay scored the opener, the Bees had three conceded at the other end and Pep Guardiola’s side won the game 3-1.

What caused the controversy was the striker picking a fight with Kyle Walker and allegedly making a comment about his children, per the Daily Mail on 8 February.

Sutton said: “It just seems quite odd to me because there are levels, aren’t there? This is what I can’t quite work out about him.

“When you dish it out to players who, frankly, are miles better than you, I think that’s a really odd mindset. I would be thinking just keep your mouth shut, stay under the radar.

“You want to be competitive, you can be physical, whatever, but chucking out comments to Kyle Walker, I do not get that in any way, shape or form, he should be embarrassed really.”

The Everton and Brighton flop

Maupay’s recent behaviour, including mocking fellow players as he did with James Maddison and engaging in heated exchanges on the pitch, reflects poorly on his character and professionalism.

By stooping to such levels, the striker not only undermines his own reputation but also brings unnecessary negativity to the game.

While Walker’s actions may not have been ideal, it doesn’t excuse Maupay’s antics and a professional footballer’s surely got to do better there.

Instead of focusing on improving his game and contributing positively to his team, the 27-year-old petulance only serves to distract from his footballing abilities.

Having faced setbacks in his career with Brighton and Everton, the Frenchman should prioritise humility and self-improvement.

By learning from past mistakes and showing maturity both on and off the pitch, he can regain respect and credibility within the football community.
