Everton: Dwight McNeil shares what dressing room is thinking ahead of appeal verdict
Dwight McNeil insists he and his Everton team-mates are only thinking about events on the field amid the imminent points deduction verdict.
Everton last week put forward their case as to why the 10-point punishment they were hit with in October was overly severe.
Following the conclusion of the three-day hearing, it is now a case of waiting for the final verdict to be delivered over the coming days or weeks.
While the uncertainty goes on, Everton are desperately looking to put points on the board across a key period in the campaign.
“What has happened off the pitch is something we can’t do anything about as players,” McNeil said, as per the Liverpool Echo [8 February].
“What we can do is concentrate on performing every week, and we have been doing that.
“We’ve got to keep going and keep focusing on ourselves. The way this club pulls together is massive.”
Everton awaiting points deduction appeal verdict
McNeil is spot on in saying that all the players can do is pull together on the field and get some points on the board.
At the same time, they will be awaiting the imminent verdict just as much as the supporters.
Let’s face it, if the 10-point deduction stands, Everton are in serious relegation trouble. If it is overturned in full, all that stress is lifted.
You have to imagine that the recent case, as well as the second potential PSR charge, has been a hot topic of debate at Finch Farm.

Indeed, right on the back of the deduction kicking in four months ago, the players rallied and put together a superb run of form.
While results have tailed off since then, the players have still done well to collect as many points as they have.
As McNeil says, it is just a case of digging in and hopefully getting the club out of a mess that has absolutely nothing to do with those on the field.
