Everton, Nottingham Forest namechecked as club set to launch Premier League legal action

Everton and Nottingham Forest have been namechecked in a report that claims an unnamed club is planning to launch legal action against the Premier League.

BBC Sport reported on Friday (9 February) that the team in question intend to take action over amended rules around commercial deals.

That is after rules regarding sponsorship deals with companies linked to clubs’ owners were tightened.

The report by Simon Stone goes on to state, via sources, that ongoing charges against Everton are further proof of there being a fractured relationship between clubs and the Premier League.

Richard Masters under fire

The tightening of these sponsorship laws could have ramifications for Everton down the line.

It basically means that teams cannot get around Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules by pumping money into the club through inflated deals.

For now, Newcastle United are widely reported to be the team to have felt particularly hard done by.

Everton supporters know all about being wronged by the Premier League as they await further news on this second PSR charge.

Everton will soon say goodbye to Goodison Park

The Toffees have already been docked 10 points this season, which is a record in English top-flight history.

It goes without saying that there is a disconnect between teams and Premier League chiefs, namely chief-executive Richard Masters.

Everton fans will continue their protests against the league, and it seems the organisation now faces backlash from at least one other team. This is a situation to watch very closely.
