Everton postpone new contract offer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Goodison news emerges

Everton have now postponed offering Dominic Calvert-Lewin a new contract until the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on page 67 of its print edition on Saturday (10 February) that the Toffees will decide whether or not to hand the England international a new deal once this season comes to an end, with his contract set to expire in 18 months.

It added that Blues manager Sean Dyche does still see the 26-year-old’s long-term future being with the club despite the forward failing to score in his last 17 games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin must earn a new contract at Everton

There is a strong likelihood that Everton will offer Calvert-Lewin a new contract at the end of the season, but it makes sense to see what happens over the next few months first.

If the worst were to happen and they were relegated from the Premier League, it’s unlikely they would be able to afford his wages in the Championship.

There is a long way to go before that point is reached, but the forward really has to earn a new deal over the next few months as his goals could be crucial in the Toffees’ bid for survival.

There is no doubt that the Englishman is an extremely talented player, but he’s so short on confidence at the moment following this run of games without finding the back of the net.

But once he finally gets on the scoresheet again, the Blues will be hoping that will be the start of many as they really need their star striker back in form at Goodison Park.
