Richard Keys slaughters Dominic Calvert-Lewin after what he saw in Everton v Man City

Richard Keys and Andy Gray slaughtered Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his first-half performance in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The Toffees turned in a great defensive performance despite the defeat, holding City until late on after restricting the team to zero shots on target in the first half.

And while speaking on beIN Sports at half-time (10 February) during the game, the broadcast duo singled out the Toffees striker for criticism after he had a “terrible” 45 minutes.

“It’s been a masterclass from Everton,” Keys said at half-time. “In doing what they’ve set out to achieve in terms of getting to half-time level.

“Calvert-Lewin is the one isn’t he? He’s just having such a terrible time.”

“He’s having a torrid time,” Gray added.

Time for Everton after Dominic Calvert-Lewin

There is a time and a place for every footballer at every football club, and there is no doubt that there was a point in time where Everton needed Calvert-Lewin.

But it feels like that time has passed now, with the former England international now reaching 18 games without a goal in all competitions and not looking likely to find the net any time soon.

At this stage it seems like Dyche is playing him more due to his reputation than because of what he’s actually doing on the pitch, because he looks a shadow of the player he did earlier in his career and even earlier in the season.

Beto and Youssef Chermiti have hardly ripped up any trees since joining in the summer but if they can’t get an opportunity for a run in the team to show what they’re capable of when Calvert-Lewin has gone 18 games without a goal, then when will they?

The team is struggling to score goals and the manager needs to look at changing things, because that’s now 7 games in the Premier League without a win.
