TNT Sports pundit blown away by ‘Terrific’ Jarrad Branthwaite for Everton against Manchester City

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite blew Lucy Ward away with his “terrific” performance in the Toffees’ Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Sean Dyche’s side tried their best to hold on for a point against the Premier League champions on Saturday (10 February), but a second-half brace from Erling Haaland ensured that the Toffees left the Etihad Stadium empty-handed.

One player who was key to that defensive solidity was Branthwaite as he repeatedly made several big interventions to deny Pep Guardiola’s side to continue his “excellent” season so far according to TNT Sports’ Ward.

Speaking on TNT Sports on Saturday (10 February, 13:13) she said: “John Stones’ ball was excellent, it’s the type of ball that De Bruyne would play from that right-hand side.

“But this is terrific defending from the young man who has had an excellent season so far.”

Sean Dyche must keep ‘terrific’ Jarrad Branthwaite at Everton

Everton have a defender in their ranks that they should be looking to build their entire team around in Branthwaite. The youngster has been superb whenever he has stepped onto the pitch for the Toffees and Saturday was just another example of that.

Against arguably the Premier League’s best forward, Branthwaite didn’t give Haaland a sniff in the first half with a number of excellent defensive interventions. While the Norwegian got the better of him in the second half, he’s done that to the world’s best

Jarrad Branthwaite may have to be sold if Everton remain in financial constraints

His performances won’t have gone unnoticed by other teams around the Premier League and beyond, but Everton have to do everything that they can to keep the Englishman at Goodison Park through the summer transfer window and beyond.

It will be tough and financial fair play developments may force the Toffees’ hand, but it should take a massive fee to tempt Everton into parting company.
