Alan Shearer reaches out to Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid ‘shattered’ verdict
Alan Shearer has reached out to Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin during his spell of 18 games without a goal to offer some advice on getting back to goalscoring ways.
The Premier League’s record goalscorer has advised Calvert-Lewin just to keep going, keep getting into attacking positions and eventually something will come.
He urged the striker to stay strong, despite assuming his confidence in front of goal would be shattered as a result of the barren spell, and insisted that Everton need him to start finding the net more regularly.
Shearer was speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast as he shared: “I know they defended really well for 70 minutes against Man City, but they have to get Calvert-Lewin back scoring. I think it’s about 17 games now, 18, in all competitions. Somehow, they’ve got to get him firing.”
Lineker then asked: “If you could give Calvert-Lewin a little bit of advice about how to get out of a rut like this, what would that be?”
Shearer’s advice to the forward was: “The only advice you can give someone in this situation is: you have to keep going. You have to stay strong. It’s tough, your confidence is shattered, but it will turn.
“I think it was last week he got robbed of a goal, that could make all the difference mentally. Everton need to get him firing, but if he keeps getting in there it will change.”
Calvert-Lewin is struggling at Everton
Since his initial burst of form when returning from injury at the start of this season, Calvert-Lewin’s performances have continued to spiral, and now having gone 18 games without a goal, he needs to start firing again.
Having a striker who can regularly find the back of the net will be crucial to Everton’s survival push, and if they want to stay up then their main number nine will have to start finding the net sooner rather than later.
There is no better name in football to advise the striker on how to get back to goalscoring ways than Shearer, so Everton’s main man would do well to pay attention and ensure he follows his recommendations.

With the European Championship coming up this summer, Calvert-Lewin appears to be far down the pecking order with England, but a late flurry of goals could fire him back into contention to provide back-up to England captain Harry Kane alongside the likes of Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins despite plenty of criticism for his performances.
