Alan Shearer loves what Everton did v Manchester City as ‘absolutely deadly’ verdict shared

Everton “gave little away” in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, with Erling Haaland needing just two chances to secure the win, according to pundit Alan Shearer.

The Toffees lost the Premier League clash at the Etihad on Saturday (10 February), with lethal striker Haaland scoring both goals.

The defeat leaves Sean Dyche’s men sitting 18th in the league table, with Pep Guardiola’s side occupying second place.

Naming Haaland in his Premier League Team of the Week, Shearer said: “Only needed two chances to score two goals against an Everton side who gave little away. Absolutely deadly.”

Everton outdone by Manchester City star Erling Haaland

It is true that the Toffees defended admirably, particularly given the form of Man City and indeed that the game was away from home.

The visitors put up a real fight, and even had chances of their own at the Etihad, but it was largely about keeping the hosts at bay.

Central defenders James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite did that right up until the 71st minute of the match, with Haaland netting his inevitable goal.

The star striker added a second 14 minutes later to wrap up all three points for Man City, who continued their superb run of form with the win.

At the other end of the form table are Everton, with Dyche needing a rapid turnaround from his players before the situation gets out of control.

Getting anything from Man City was always going to be a big ask, making the upcoming clash with 15th-place Crystal Palace that bit more important.

In other Everton news, Dyche can be proud despite the loss to Manchester City as a double statistic emerges from the 2-0 defeat.
