Amadou Onana wants big move as transfer offer lined up for Everton star at Chelsea

Amadou Onana wants to move to a top club as Chelsea work on an offer to sign him from Everton in the summer, according to Seb Ecrivian Foot.

The Weekend Sports journalist reported via Twitter on 13 February that Belgian is looking to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season, having stayed through the January window amid transfer links.

He wrote, translated to English: “As announced and despite the offers, Onana has not moved this winter. Chelsea is preparing an offer for this summer. The midfielder wants to join a big club. To be continued.”

Onana, 22, returned from injury with an appearance off the bench in the 2-0 defeat at Manchester City at the weekend and remains a key man for Sean Dyche.

Everton star Onana eyes Goodison Park exit as Chelsea ready bid?

It is pretty inevitable that there will be clubs sniffing around Onana once again come the summer, and there may come a time when he becomes the next big-money Toffees sale.

But recent history has set a precedent of him remaining on Merseyside despite the speculation, and in light of their own struggles of late it could be argued that Chelsea are a fallen “big” club in the same way Everton are.

Either way, given the Stamford Bridge side are reportedly tempted to flog Conor Gallagher [BBC Sport, 9 January] there have to questions over whether the ex-European champions can or should be trying to get hold of Onana, just as with Barcelona’s interest.

The Belgian star of the mould targeted in West London, as a young, developing talent with major potential, but after spending close to £300million on Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu in the space of a year there are surely doubts about how serious Chelsea interest can be.

Dyche will know that the financial situation around the club functions like a flashing “for sale” sign above his squad to clubs who might hope to land a bargain, but with a positive prediction over the points deduction appeal increasing hope that relegation can once again be confined to the rearview mirror there is no guarantee Onana is going anywhere.
