Jamie Carragher demands Everton answers as appeal verdict waits on, claims Premier League know

Jamie Carragher has suggested the Premier League already knows the outcome to the Everton appeal hearing and may “fear the reaction” so are delaying an announcement.

The Sky Sports pundit demanded to know what the hold up was via Twitter on 14 February, calling it a “matter of urgency” for the Toffees and rival clubs.

A verdict was reportedly due around this time [talkSPORT, 30 January], with the three day hearing held at the turn of the month, but so far an answer has not come out.

Carragher wrote: “What is the hold up on the appeals decision regarding Everton’s 10pt deduction? Two weeks have passed, this is surely a matter of urgency for Everton & the clubs around them.

“I’m sure they & the PL know their decision by now. Are the PL waiting until after Everton’s home game on Monday because they fear the reaction?”

Jamie Carragher moots deliberate delay on Everton appeal verdict

Trust in the authorities from the Toffees fanbase is already close to zero so the suggestion that they are being kept waiting on purpose won’t do anything to improve that.

Alan Myers predicted on 13 February that the decision may not come out until next week but if Carragher senses something is amiss already then it isn’t a great sign.

Every step of the way this process has been a pretty miserable one from an Everton point of view, and while there have been recent positive predictions for the outcome the longer the delay goes on the more uncomfortable it will become.

The appeal has the potential to be the difference between relegation and staying in the Premier League so the stakes could hardly be higher at Goodison Park.

With Everton due to be on Monday Night Football against Crystal Palace on 19 February it would be another opportunity for supporters to make their feelings known to a prime time audience, but amid displeasure at the coverage of the whole situation there would be widespread doubts on Merseyside over that actually getting through either way.

And one of Sky Sports’ top pundits suggesting that the league might be deliberately trying to avoid that shows how much of a mess the governance in the English top flight is currently perceived to be.
