Crystal Palace to be led by Ray Lewington v Everton, verbal agreement reached with new manager

Crystal Palace will have Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy in charge for Monday’s (19 February) clash with Everton, according to Ryan Taylor.

Writing for The Sunday Mirror‘s print edition [18 February, page 71], Taylor shared that Palace have reached a verbal agreement with Oliver Glasner to succeed Roy Hodgson.

However, due to Hodgson’s collapse in training earlier this week, the Eagles will hold off from putting Glasner in charge for the big showdown at Goodison Park.

“Crystal Palace’s preparations for tomorrow’s crunch trip to Everton have been marred by Roy Hodgson’s health scare,” Taylor wrote.

“Assistants Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy are expected to lead the Eagles on Merseyside – even though it could be their final game at the helm.

“Former Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg boss Oliver Glasner is understood to have verbally agreed a contract at Selhurst Park.”

Roy Hodgson on way out of Crystal Palace

This contest with Crystal Palace is now even bigger following Nottingham Forest’s win over West Ham on Saturday (17 February).

If Everton were to beat the effectively managerless Eagles, they would close the gap between the sides to just two points.

That would all of a sudden drag another team into the relegation mix, rather than leaving it as a possible two-team battle with Luton Town.

The situation at Palace is obviously far from ideal due to Hodgson falling ill last week, and everyone wishes him all the best.

From an Everton perspective, the fact Glasner will not be in charge just yet can only be considered a positive development.

Palace will be expected to kick on once a new man is officially in charge, but Everton will hope they are dragged further in the mire before then.

The only way to achieve that is by picking up three valuable points in the final game of the Premier League weekend.
