Everton: England update emerges on James Garner after recent West Ham United developments
Everton midfielder James Garner is being monitored by England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of a potential call-up.
That is according to the Daily Mail, with the publication reporting on its website on Monday (19 February) that Southgate is also considering Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Fulham’s Harrison Reed.
The Daily Mail added that the Three Lions boss is following the trio closely amid concerns over Kalvin Phillips at West Ham.
Everton ace Garner to replace Phillips for England?
England don’t have much time left to prepare for Euro 2024 this summer, with friendlies against Belgium and Brazil next month key to that preparation.
Manager Southgate has a lot of big decisions to make as he counts down the days until he names his final squad for the tournament.
And it seems that Goodison Park ace Garner could be in his thoughts, which is testament to how well he has been performing under Sean Dyche this season.
He has been a star in midfield alongside the likes of Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana, with their defensive approach allowing Abdoulaye Doucoure to adopt a more attacking role.
Garner does, however, seemingly face stiff competition from the likes of Mainoo and Reed, with the Daily Mail noting that the Everton man is regarded as a back-up option at this moment in time.

But he should be considered ahead of West Ham’s Phillips, with the on-loan Manchester City man continuing his struggles at the London Stadium.
In other Everton news, John Cross seems to suggest that one Toffees loanee should be fined as he sparks a Premier League player discussion.
