Everton Women provide ‘Major injury’ update on Karoline Olesen v West Ham United
Everton Women’s Karoline Olesen has avoided a “major injury” following the 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday 18 February, the club have confirmed.
The club reported via its official website [19 February] that, having left the field on a stretcher, Olesen will only face a short period on the sidelines after receiving stitches.
The 19-year-old attempted to make a challenge in the final moments of the win at Walton Hall Park but was injured in the process, and subsequently taken to hospital for a cut on her quadriceps.
A slight shadow for Everton Women amid West Ham win
A team never wants to see one of their players stretchered off the pitch, especially when it casts a shadow over a much-needed 2-0 win over fellow Women’s Super League strugglers, West Ham.
The Toffees have struggled in the league this season but have found success in the Women’s FA Cup, having reached the quarter-finals after a convincing 7-1 win over Nottingham Forest.
However, it is extremely good news that Olesen will only be unavailable for a short period, already undergoing rehabilitation at Finch Farm.
The midfielder has been on the fringe of Brian Sorensen’s starting XI so far this season, starting just three of her 12 league appearances. But after arriving from DBK Fortuna Hjorring in the summer, Olesen is an exciting prospect.

With a 72 per cent pass accuracy and 71 per cent tackle success, the youngster has the potential to be a key part of Sorensen’s squad moving forward but must continue developing if she is to replace Clare Wheeler or Katherine Kuhl Moller in the middle of the park. [FotMob]
Olesen is certainly full of energy, proven by her very quickly-earned yellow card on Sunday, but must work hard to fight for a spot in the starting XI.
