Everton to win back Premier League points only for new deduction to follow – Martin Lipton

Everton could be set to win three or four points back from their initial points deduction only to receive another punishment for their latest charge, according to Martin Lipton.

The Sun’s chief football writer predicted via X on Thursday (22 February) that the Toffees will see their initial 10-point deduction for profit and sustainability breaches reduced to six or seven points following their appeal.

However, Lipton did admit that he expects Sean Dyche’s side to be hit with a second deduction after they were hit with another charge for allegedly flouting the Premier League’s PSR rules again in the 2022-23 season, this time alongside Nottingham Forest.

Writing on X Lipton posted: “Nobody knows (yet) what outcome will be. If I had 50p on it, I’d guess EFC might get 3/4 PTS back. But that’s purely a guess. Might be way out either side.

“And do expect deductions for both EFC and NFFC for 22/23 breaches, which they have both admitted.”

When will Everton learn the result of their appeal?

Everton supporters must be sick of the uncertainty currently surrounding their football club as they continue to be left in the dark over what the future at Goodison Park looks like.

While it would be excellent for the Toffees to be awarded three or four points following their appeal, it will be of little benefit to Dyche’s side if they are immediately hit with a second deduction for their most recent charge.

Everton are well and truly in a relegation battle, with some pundits going as far as to suggest that they are coasting towards the Championship and every point could now be decisive in determining whether or not the Toffees avoid the drop.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge around Goodison Park sooner rather than later so that Dyche’s side will at least know what they have to do to maintain their Premier League status for at least another year.
