Everton: David Dein informs friends he’s interested in Goodison takeover amid 777 Partners delay
David Dein has told friends that his interest in the 777 Partners takeover of Everton is down to his relationship with he late Sir Philip Carter, according to Matt Slater.
Writing in the Athletic on Friday (23 February), Slater reported that former Arsenal vice-chairman Dein has been in regular contact with the Premier League over the deal, which is still yet to get the green light from the league.
Dein was influential when Farhad Moshiri took over at Goodison Park but his involvement with the 777 deal is because of his strong relationship with Carter and his successor Bill Kenwright.
Slater wrote: “Dein, 80, has told friends his interest in the takeover is simply a result of a relationship with Everton that goes back to the late 1980s when he and his opposite number at Goodison Park, the late Sir Philip Carter, helped to create the Premier League.
“He then enjoyed a strong friendship with Carter’s successor, the late Bill Kenwright. There is no suggestion he has any financial links with 777 or is looking for a job at Everton.”
Is David Dein looking to get involved with 777 Partners at Everton?
It seems very unlikely that Dein is trying to get himself involved with the 777 deal or that he is looking for a position at Goodison Park should the Miami-based firm finally get the go-ahead to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in Everton.
Some supporters might be reluctant to see Dein get involved at all given Moshiri’s tenure at Goodison Park has, putting it nicely, not been great (we could obviously be a lot stronger on that one…).

What is for sure, though, is that the Toffees need some clarity and they need it fast. They are waiting to hear the result of an appeal against a 10-point deduction for being found guilty of flouting PSR rules and are waiting to hear if they will be punished for a second charge.
With so much uncertainty right now, it means there is an understandable knock-on on their league performance and ultimately the saddest thing is that their Premier League status might be decided by points deductions.
