Everton confirmed XI v Brighton: Ashley Young axed as Amadou Onana decision made
Everton manager Sean Dyche has made one change to his Toffees starting XI for their Premier League showdown with Brighton on Saturday 24 February.
The Toffees boss has axed Ashley Young with the 38-year-old taking his place on the substitutes bench, with Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison returning to the fold to take his place in Everton’s starting XI.
Despite scoring off the bench last time out, Belgium international Amadou Onana remains rooted to the bench with the midfield duo of Idrissa Gueye and James Garner preferred by Dyche once again against the Seagulls.
Can Everton avoid relegation from the Premier League?
The mood around Goodison Park at this moment in time is incredibly bleak and Dyche and his side will be looking to change that on Saturday and finally get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Everton were poor in their draw against managerless Crystal Palace last time out and had to rely on a late header from Onana. If they want to avoid the drop into the Championship this term, they’re going to have to up their game sooner rather than later.
Defensively, Dyche’s side have been strong and resolute, but they’re going to have to be at their game if they want to return from the south coast with some points. Brighton haven’t been in excellent form themselves so this is certainly a winnable game.
Hopefully, the Toffees can begin to turn the tide and stop the coast towards the Championship by putting all their off-the-field woes to one side to focus on matters on the pitch.
A win against the Seagulls would be a huge step towards Premier League safety this season.
