Everton victim of ‘discrimination’ at the hands of Richard Masters over 777 takeover
Richard Masters and the Premier League are showing clear “discrimination” against Everton and their supporters, according to Joe Anderson.
The former Liverpool mayor claimed on Twitter (24 February) that after 23 weeks waiting on a verdict for the proposed takeover by 777 Partners it is now a show of “power”, “arrogance” and “disrespect” for the league office when the process usually takes half that time.
The American firm agreed a deal with Farhad Moshiri over five months ago, with an announcement made on 15 September, but the Premier League still want more information to make a decision.
Anderson wrote: “As the 777 Partners’ takeover has now entered its 23rd week of the supposed 12-week approval process together with the appeal silence clearly shows the power arrogance disrespect and discrimination being shown towards Everton FC and Fans by Richard Masters and the Premier league.”
When will Premier League finally rule on Everton takeover?
The Toffees are in the unenviable position of being propped up by a company who many claim aren’t suitable owners, but without they will be scrambling for cash to keep the lights on.
Either way it is quite clear that the delays are not beneficial to anyone, and the longer it goes on without an answer either way the more it begs the question of why.
Clearly it throws up red flags that 777 haven’t get the go-ahead within the standard timeframe, and yet Masters and the League haven’t said no either.
Trust in the league office is already through the floor around Goodison Park thanks to the point deduction, where the wait for an appeals verdict also still drags on.
But with Everton straining to pick up points on the pitch amid disjointed performances it is hard to escape the conclusion that the players are being affected by the uncertainty.
The Premier League would no-doubt deny Anderson’s apparent accusation that they are deliberately slowing things down, but it certainly isn’t boosting their reputation among the club’s fanbase.
It is possible the fault lies with 777 Partners themselves, but since they are providing millions in loans during the delay that would suggest they are even more unsuitable than some have claimed so seems illogical.
