Gary Lineker and Micah Richards clash over ‘dangerous’ Everton v Brighton incident on MOTD
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana could have had his leg broken by Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour, according to Micah Richards.
The BBC Sport pundit shared the verdict after the Seagulls ace was sent off for a high tackle on the Toffees star during their clash on Saturday (24 February).
Fellow BBC Sport pundit Gary Lineker did not, however, agree with Richards regarding the tackle in the match that finished 1-1 at the Amex Stadium.
“He takes a bad touch,” Richards said on BBC Match of the Day (24 February). “I think it’s a red card because of the height.”
Lineker interjected: “He’s just kicked the ball and followed through a fraction,” with Richards responding: “No but he could break his leg! I think that’s a red card.”
Lineker replied: “I know that they give those nowadays but I don’t like this. He’s just kicked the ball.” Richards then responded: “It’s dangerous isn’t it?” Lineker replied: “Football is dangerous!”
Everton fail to take advantage of 10-man Brighton
The Toffees certainly gave it a good go against Brighton, in what was always going to be a touch clash, particularly with the game being away from home.
They battled well for the majority of the game, and seemed like they were heading for a huge three points when Jarrad Branthwaite fired home in the 73rd minute.
The situation got even better for the visitors when Gilmour was shown a red for his lunge on Onana, with Sean Dyche then surely believing that all three points were coming back to Goodison Park.
But it wasn’t meant to be, with Brighton captain Lewis Dunk rescuing a point for the hosts in the 95th minute at the Amex Stadium.

The late manner of the equaliser will really frustrate Dyche, who will be extremely frustrated that his side blow a massive chance to edge up the Premier League table and away from the dreaded relegation zone.
