Everton: BBC Sport journalist makes ‘huge trouble’ claim after points deduction appeal outcome
Everton having their 10-point deduction reduced to six points leaves Burnley and Sheffield United in “huge trouble.”
That is according to BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone after the Toffees had their sanction reduced after appealing.
The decision has moved the Goodison Park outfit from 17th to 15th in the Premier League standings, with the club now on 25 points.
“It has a big effect on the bottom of the table because it moves Everton up into 15th spot, above Brentford and leaves Luton four points away from safety,” Stone said, as per BBC Sport.
“More importantly, underneath them, it leaves Burnley and Sheffield United in huge trouble. But it is not the end of the story yet.”
Everton climb Premier League table after appeal success
Everyone connected with the Toffees will be delighted with the appeal news, with the Merseyside outfit moving a couple of places up the table and importantly further away from the bottom three.
A dreaded relegation from the Championship is still on the cards, but Sean Dyche and his players can breathe a little sigh of relief that things are not as bad as they once were.
Still, they will be absolutely gutted about their recent results on the pitch, particularly their 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday (24 February).
It is a fine result on paper, but the Goodison Park club will know that they missed a huge chance to clinch a massive three points.
They went ahead at the Amex Stadium through a superb Jarrad Branthwaite goal, with their situation getting even better when Brighton’s Billy Gilmour was sent off.

But a last-gasp equaliser from Lewis Dunk broke Everton hearts, ensuring the continuation of their lengthy winless run.
