Everton: Caroline Dinenage issues ASAP demand on outstanding issue after points deduction reduced
The second Everton profit and sustainability charge case has to be heard “ASAP” in the wake of the appeals verdict from the first, according to Caroline Dinenage.
The chair of the Parliamentary Culture, Media and Sport Committee reacted via Twitter on 26 February, welcoming the announcement that the club’s 10-point deduction had been reduced to six by the appeal’s board.
But after the Toffees were referred alongside Nottingham Forest for a second charge last month she insisted that the club needs a fast decision to finally bring an end to the uncertainty.
Dinenage wrote: “While some Everton fans will no doubt still be disappointed, it’s welcome the appeals process has allowed the decision & especially the sanction to be reconsidered.
“Everton’s outstanding case must now be considered ASAP to give the club & fans certainty for the future.”
MP reacts as Everton get four Premier League points back on appeal
The reduced points deduction is a partial relief for the Toffees in that it lifts the club back up to 15th and away from the relegation zone, but there will be no way to relax until the resulting impact on the second hearing becomes clear.
It would logically suggest that the absolute maximum punishment if the club are found against a second time is another six, which would leave Sean Dyche and his side right back in the battle against the drop.
But as the upcoming hearing concerns two thirds of the same period as before, with just the 2023 accounts coming into play, it is possible that any sanction would be smaller than the original.
Either way the fans, and indeed the players, have already spent months going into games without a clear picture of where it will actually leave them afterwards, which is a negative influence that most other sides simply don’t have.
Everton have been hit by the possibility of two points deductions in one season specifically in order to speed up the process, so if they have to bear the brunt of the downside they could also do with getting some answers for their own sake as quickly as possible.
