Everton: Ex-Liverpool mayor reacts as Goodison points deduction appeal news emerges
Joe Anderson has welcomed the news that Everton have had their points deduction reduced from 10 points down to six following their appeal.
Writing on Twitter on Monday (26 February), the former Mayor of Liverpool said the Toffees were right to praise the “brilliant” fans, particularly the away fans who have vocally and visually highlighted the “unjust sanction” since the ruling was handed out in November.
He added that it’s still “unfair and unjust” that the Blues have been deducted points despite the appeal board reducing the sanction by four points.
“The reduction of four points is welcome news and rightly Everton give praise to the brilliant fans and, in particular, the away fans who have vocally and visually highlighted the unjust sanction in the first place,” said Anderson. “Still unfair and unjust, we know it.”
Everton appeal news a huge boost at Goodison
It’s great news for Everton that their points deduction has been reduced as it provides a huge boost to their Premier League survival hopes this season.
The Toffees have found themselves flirting with the relegation zone since the initial verdict was handed out in November, but they now sit five points above Luton Town in third-bottom.
While many still believe six points is too many, there will be plenty of relief around Goodison that they have managed to get four points back on the board.
There still is the matter of the second charge for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules to overcome, but they will be hoping further points aren’t taken from them.
The Blues can put that to the side for one day, though, after finally being handed some good news following months of speculation and frustration on Merseyside.
