Everton: Nathan Patterson, Youssef Chermiti axed to reserves as news emerges

Everton defender Nathan Patterson has been axed to the reserves and was named in the under-21s XI against Fulham on 26 February.

Along with him, even Youssef Chermiti is named in the side as they aim to get minutes under their belt and fight for a first-team berth.

Patterson has made 19 league appearances for the Toffees this season while Chermiti has played on nine occasions, featuring for just 57 minutes, however.

Patterson and Chermiti both have something to prove for Everton

It’s crucial for both Patterson and Chermiti to seize this opportunity and demonstrate their value to Everton.

As a right-back, Patterson has a genuine chance to secure a regular spot in the first team, especially with ageing and underperforming options like Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman.

Additionally, with Ben Godfrey often deployed out of position at right-back, the Scotland international can stake his claim for a starting role.

Similarly, Chermiti has the chance to provide much-needed competition for forwards like Calvert-Lewin and Beto, who have struggled to find the net consistently.

Calvert-Lewin has not found the back of the net for the last 20 games and that’s not only frustrated Sean Dyche but his former teammate Conor Coady as well.

It remains to be seen if Chermiti is actually given more minutes as he was signed with Dyche at the club so he would’ve had some say in the matter.
