Everton: Premier League club spooked by charges as new transfer cancelled
A Premier League club eventually pulled out of transfer negotiations with Rochdale for one of their players due to the Everton punishments this season, according to Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported [26 February, page 59] that the Premier League club in question was “spooked” by the Toffees’ 10-point deduction due to a Profit and Sustainability breach, as well as Nottingham Forest’s charges.
The chairman of Rochdale, Simon Gauge, believes that the club could fold without an investor after being relegated from the Football League last season, but the loss of interest in one of their players has seen them lose a “lifeline”.
Why has the FFP situation regarding Everton spooked another Premier League club?
Another Premier League club being “spooked” by the situation at Goodison Park would suggest that they are toeing the line between following the strict FFP guidelines and not.
There is still no certainty over whether Everton’s punishment will remain, with no recent update from the independent panel’s verdict on the appeal against the 10-point deduction.
The whole situation has been an ache for the Toffees, who are at risk of relegation for a third successive season, but not through the fault of the players on the pitch.
The panel has been slammed by fans and journalists alike, with the ongoing process taking much longer than expected, with several reported deadlines missed.

Without the deduction, Sean Dyche’s side would be sitting pretty in 13th place, one point behind Fulham and five points off the top half of the Premier League. Instead, they are one point above the relegation zone.
Everton fans just want to know the result of their club’s appeal so that the charge can be put behind them, with the full focus going on the league. They do have everything to help them survive this season but the distractions are not helping at all.
In other Everton news, the club blocked an exit after one Toffees player was convinced to leave by a star in La Liga.
