Everton: Alan Shearer moots England call-up for Jarrad Branthwaite after 1-1 draw v Brighton
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite cannot be too far away from an England call-up after his performance against Brighton.
That is according to Alan Shearer, who shared the verdict after the defender scored as the Toffees drew 1-1 with the Seagulls.
The Amex Stadium played host to the Premier League clash on Saturday (24 February), with Lewis Dunk netting a last-minute leveller for the hosts.
Naming Branthwaite in his Team of the Week, Shearer told the official Premier League website: “Scored a great goal and defended really well, with Everton only conceding at the death. With performances like this, an England call-up can’t be too far away.”
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite to land England spot?
England manager Gareth Southgate has plenty of big decisions to make in the near future, with Euro 2024 rapidly approaching.
The Three Lions do have friendly clashes before then as part of their preparation for the tournament, with Southgate needing to name his squad soon.
Whether Goodison Park ace Branthwaite makes the cut remains to be seen, but he must surely be in contention given his feats for the Toffees this season.
The young centre-back has massively impressed at both ends of the pitch, with his defensive and attacking abilities on show at the Amex.
Unfortunately, however, Southgate will have a long list of players to choose from, with Brighton ace Dunk also surely under consideration.
England have been handed a favourable group this summer, with the Three Lions drawn with Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia in Group C.

They will certainly fancy their chances of finishing in top spot, with Branthwaite undoubtedly keen to be a part of it all.
