Everton: Alan Stubbs slams Premier League after appeal verdict, ‘horribly wrong’ verdict shared
Everton have been handed a positive result from their points deduction appeal, according to BBC Sport pundit Alan Stubbs.
But the former Goodison Park defender believes the Premier League have handed the situation “atrociously.”
The Toffees were handed a 10-point deduction for financial breaches earlier this season, but the sanction has since been reduced to six points.
“I think it’s been handled atrociously from a Premier League point of view and they’ve got it horribly wrong,” Stubbs told BBC Radio Merseyside (26 February).
“The result is a positive for Everton, but then before you know it you start thinking about the second charge and what that entails.”
Everton rise Premier League table after appeal verdict
Everyone connected with the Merseyside club were eagerly awaiting the outcome of the appeal regarding the 10-point deduction.
And it has certainly been a successful one, with that punishment now severely reduced, resulting in the club climbing from 17th to 15th place in the Premier League table.
Toffees manager Sean Dyche and his players would obviously have liked to have been given more points back, particularly given the poor run of form they are currently on.
But they should be more than satisfied with this outcome, which should give the team a little boost as they continue their push away from the relegation zone.
Dyche must now gather his group and urge them to really consider their attitude on the pitch, with a dreaded drop to the Championship still on the cards despite the positive appeal outcome.

The clubs around them may also just up their game following this news, with the likes of Brentford and Nottingham Forest only needing one or two positive results to overtake the Toffees.
