Everton: Premier League labelled ‘Absolute joke’ after Goodison Park news

Dominic King has delivered a scathing verdict of the Premier League after Everton had their 10-point deduction reduced to six following a successful appeal.

The Daily Mail journalist has dubbed the whole situation as an “absolute joke” after the Toffees were handed the punishment in November due to a Profit and Sustainability breach.

With the appeal against the Premier League’s deduction taken to an independent panel, Everton have finally heard the review after multiple reported deadlines were missed.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (27 February, 7:11am), King said: “It’s been an absolute joke. They should never have been deducted 10 points in the first place. Everton have complied, trying to help as much as possible with the investigation.

“For me, the thing that has left the most bitter taste, the season has been ruined for everybody. Everton fans haven’t known whether they’re coming or going, and it doesn’t stop here.

“There is a threat of another punishment coming in April for an apparent second breach so we’re still in a state of flux. Nobody knows what’s going on. How can you have that situation in the ‘best league in the world’?”

Everton reach correct verdict after Premier League appeal

Of course, the Toffees were in the wrong, and the club have admitted that during the entire process. But a deduction of 10 points is incredibly harsh and the reduction to six points proves exactly that.

Questions are being asked about the integrity of the Premier League, with their initial decision proven to be a wrong one.

Football has been played at Goodison Park for several weeks with a massive dark cloud hanging over, which is likely to have affected the poor run of results and a winless run of nine league matches.

Everton are without a victory since a 2-0 result against Burnley in December, dropping further and further down the table, and hanging just one point above Luton Town, who are in the relegation zone.

Everton supporters will be desperate for a takeover to go through at Goodison Park

However, after the change to the club’s points reduction, Sean Dyche and his players can begin to look above them after leapfrogging Brentford and Nottingham Forest into 15th place.

Though Everton are still involved in the conversation of relegation this season, the hope will be that the players can begin to play with more freedom again. But with a second charge on its way, that might be short-lived.
